22nd
Team 2 - 1847 km to date.
Lots of stops on day 8! Woodstock, Brantford, Burlington, Oakville, Sherway Gardens and ending at Sick Kids in Toronto.
Every rider and crew member have been so thoroughly blown away by the support that has been given. The hospitality, support, generosity and the entusiasm is outstanding! Cheering crowds, great weather - a truly remarkable day! I had a visit yesterday from Mike Burgess (Ski-scape buddy) and my soon to be sister-in-law, Ginette St. Armande. Today in Branford, my father-in-law, Ron Hicks and friends, Dorothy Haley and Joyce Boon. Even though they were short visits in order for the riders to stay on schedule …. it really meant a lot to have their support!
At Sherway Gardens I was greated by my niece and her friends from the The Karen Kain School of the Arts, with cheers and posters! My brother-in-law, Brian Hicks, wearing (as he calls it…) his Ex-spandex, rode with me from Sherway to Sick Kids. It was phenominal to have him along for the ride.
Day 9 we are going from Pickering, Oshawa, New Castle Village, Cobourg, Brighton and finally stopping in Belleville.
Attached are a couple of pictures and the caption used in the June 20th issue of the Reston Recorder.
Sears National Kids Cancer Ride
From June 13 to 24th, 2009, 36 riders will ride from Vancouver to Halifax and along the way, Ride-Along Riders will join in cities across Canada. On Tuesday, June 16, the cyclists stopped in Reston for refreshments at the Rest’n Inn. Together the cyclists plan to raise millions of dollars on behalf of charity that will improve the quality of life for children and their families living with and beyond cancer. “Our destination - beyond Cancer.” The route visits many of Canada’s 17 pediatric oncology centres and hospitals where the cancer community will share inspiring stories of strength and hope with cyclists and media.
